Our Giant Norwich Store Manager Phil on his Glaswegian Experience

The once-in-a-lifetime event, the UCI World Championships, Glasgow 2023 was an opportunity I couldn’t miss, so I made sure to nab myself a few tickets.

The Glentress Valley in the quaint village of Peebles was absolutely gorgeous. The scenery was breathtaking, and kudos to the amazing team who organized the site and designed the course. They did a fantastic job! The best part was that the spectator spots allowed us to see multiple parts of the course, so we didn’t miss any of the action. Even though we had some good old Scottish drizzle on the final morning, it didn’t dampen the crowd’s high spirits. Everyone was pumped and cheering on every rider, from juniors to elites, from start to finish.

And yes, of-course it rained… Scottish Summer, eh.

The experience was really something, I got to chat with the pit teams, and the mechanics (geeking out) from each of the teams. I even had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the bikes themselves.  all the excitement, surrounded by fellow fans who shared the same passion. And guess what? I even got to meet my hero, Jenn Jackson! It was hard not to go “fanboy full send”.

I, Phil, with Jenn Jackson of Liv Factory Racing and Canada.

To sum it up, it was an unforgettable time filled with incredible experiences and the chance to be a part of something truly special surrounded by the cycling community. I for one can’t wait for the next UCI XC event, and if you ever get the chance or opportunity to go – I implore you to do it!

Just a glimpse of the size and scale of the MTB “fan village” in Glentress!
