Starting road cycling can be a daunting process, but we are here to help you through it! We will help you with choosing your first road bike by considering the type of bike, your budget, and different frame types.

Type of Bike

Giant has 4 main styles of bikes and it is useful to know what is what. The 4 styles are PROPEL, TCR, DEFY, and CONTEND. Propel is an out-and-out race bike, TCR is Giant’s classic race bike, DEFY is best for comfort, and Contend is a balanced ride with a smaller price tag.

Your Budget

Before looking into the type of bike you want, you are going to want to establish your budget. Prices vary greatly with bikes from low-end spec to the high-end spec that can cost upwards of thousands of pounds. If you are wanting a bike that you use to commute or do a quick workout on then you are wanting to get a bike that is on the lower end of the scale towards a Giant Contend. If you want something that you are going to use for intense training or competition then a Giant Propel is a great choice.

Frame Types

One thing to consider is the frame material. The two choices are aluminum and carbon fibre. Long story short carbon fibre is a lighter and stronger material but typically the price for the bike is much higher than aluminum. Aluminum is the cheaper out the two and is found on road bikes sub £1000. This is something that all new riders need to consider when choosing a new road bike.
