The Biggest Colchester Based Bike shop, stocking the biggest bike brands in the world

The store that can do it all.

Our Busiest store is our second store that we brought out of the dust – Cycle Revolution Colchester. This shop has had a presence in Colchester for well over one and a half decades and continues to be the go to shop for everyone's cycling needs.

Kids bikes, E-bikes, Hybrids, Road Bikes, Mountain bikes. The store stocks a huge range from the likes of Trek, Giant, Specialized, Cube, Focus and Whyte.

But what’s make this store special? Now that would be the staff. Friendly, knowledgeable and know how to treat customers well; and no matter how busy they are, they will always be there to help you!

The store itself if situated just off straight road and has been expanded to fit the vast range of bicycles and accessories from the biggest brands in the world. Also just across the road from its high end sister store Cycle Evolution.

Brands in Store:

Specialized, Giant, Trek, Cube, Focus, Bontrager, Altura, Cateye, Abus, Lezyne, Torq, High 5, Topeak, Tortec and many more…

By far and away the busiest workshop out of all of our stores, consistently servicing 8 bikes a day 6 days a week. That’s almost 2500 workshop jobs a year!

It’s fair to say they have a huge selection of workshop components, ready for when your bike is booked in for and the Main mechanic Rob has been with us almost 15 years. If he can’t fix it, no one can.

All the mechanics, needless to say, are CyTech Qualified and will only let a bike go out the door when it is 100% safe and working, there are no half done jobs here. Just make sure you book if you need a repair. Contact the store here.

The Team:

John (Paul) Selby – Sales Manager:

Height: 5’8” Hobbits are only slightly shorter

Weight: 78KG

Age: 42years old

Bikes: Specialized Allez, Trek Superfly 5

‘I have been cycling for as long as I can remember, grabbing your bike and going for a ride gives you the greatest feeling of freedom, whether this is on the road bike or on the mountain bike. I have personally ridden more of the mountain bike over the years, as I do love blasting through fast, technical single track, which I have done many times over the years. Some of the best places I have visited are Wales, Thetford forest and Mine-head plus many others. I recently started road cycling, which I have to admit, is very addictive. It must be something to do with the speed you can achieve. Within weeks I was riding 50 and 60 mile rides, as well as conquering a 100miles too. This was both hard and very satisfying. So having ridden bikes for so long, being in your dream job as the sales manager in one of the best feelings especially as its in one of the best cycle shops in the country Thomas Cycle Revolution. I have been in this role for just over 15 years and in my eyes this has been an amazing journey because I get to witness many changes in cycling history. It still amazes me that cycling has made great improvements year on year with the best still yet to come. I am really looking forward to the future of cycling.’

Jonathan Smith – Service Manager:

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 65kg

Age: half century – not out

Bikes: Giant XtC Hardtail, Giant Trance, Specialized Allez 1994, Raleigh Clubman 1984

‘I have been cycling for rather longer than most of the other people at the shop have been on this planet! I am a mountain biker by persuasion but love all sorts of cycling. I especially enjoy keeping older bikes running as ‘steel is real!’ I love the challenge of finding solutions to complex problems with bikes – which is just as well as I am the shop Service Manager. My only real regret in life is that we don’t have a shop cat!’

George Shipman – EPOS and Marketing Manager:

Height: 5’8”

Weight: 61kg dripping wet

Age: 21years old

Bikes: Trek Emonda, Giant TCR, Cinelli Gazzetta, Trek X-Caliber and a few more.

‘I haven’t been riding bikes for as long as my other colleges, and am probably one of the only people my age who rides a bike properly, but doesn’t race. I gained all my CyTech qualifications off my own back straight after education, and love having the ability to adjust everything on my bike myself and build my own kit, including a number of wheel-sets. I own a fair range of bikes including a fully ‘built not bought’ Fixed gear steel Cinelli with hand built track wheels, a TCR advanced SL and a Trek X-caliber in Purple! At the moment I ride for the enjoyment, I ride to keep fit but also, I ride, to loose to all those proper racers out there. I am a car lover, a sub-par photographer and a guitarist, with a love of Classic Rock and Blues. If you ever find me sitting still I am probably asleep.’

Rob Reid – Head Mechanic

Height: 5’10

Weight: Built strong

Age: 32years old

Bikes: Trek Powerfly 7, Trials Bike, Single speed

‘My names Rob, I race cars and ride bikes and have been the main mechanic at Cycle Revolution for one and a half decades. Never have I ever wanted to become a super elite racer and never have I ever not enjoyed riding my bike. I started quite young and have built my bike skills and mechanical knowledge just through experience. If you can find a problem with a bike I can’t fix, your doing pretty well. I have recently got into E-bikes and have found that the normal push bike has sat in the shed. Twice as fast, twice as far, twice as much fun with the same, if not more of a workout. There are no downsides and my riding has always been about enjoyment. Just don’t ask me for a favour, unless you bring high volumes of sweet, sweet food.’

Andrew Neal – Mechanic

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 66KG

Age: 32years old

Bikes: Whyte 905

‘I am very much the recreational cyclist. I don't have a competitive bone in my body and my riding has and always will be, driven by fun. I grew up in a cul-de-sac which was ideal for learning to ride a bike and all of my earliest memories involve riding bikes in some way. Not having to worry about cars meant that a lot hours were spent riding around the street with lots of other people, many of whom were older and more skilled. This meant that I leaned a lot about balance and bike control from an early age. I rode BMX for a few years, moving onto jump bikes and then eventually onto proper mountain bikes. I've even dabbled with Road bikes and hybrids over the years but ultimately I prefer to be in the middle of the woods somewhere doing skids! Ultimately If it doesn't wheelie, I'm not interested... It will always wheelie!’

Alper Karaalp – Sales Extraordinaire

Height: 5’10”

Weight: 82kg

Age: 52

Bikes: Trek Domane, Specialized Hardrock

‘I have been cycling since a young boy and I used to race in Turkey for my region, then I decided that the race scene was no longer for me and studied Physical Education and Product development in Sports Clothing. Bikes have always been a passion of mine, and this carried over to me working with motorcycles for the best years of my life in Turkey. I have been in the sales business for my most recent of years and have really enjoyed my time talking to customers and helping them to get active. I still dream of going back to paradise soon, but only when I have made myself a millionaire. In lira anyway!’
